Until 2010, as I passed through after my child's birth in Jeddah. I taken a birth certificate from hospital.
Than for permenant birth certificate in Saudia (at tht time, thts wat I heard, I am not sure for permenant exactly), I takes my and wife's iqama copy, my and wife's passport copy, copy of kids birth certificate, than I went to Ahwal Madinah office (Govt office) in Jeddah early in morning after Fajr (bcoz of huge no. of people), I got token in 20's :)
Than in office I waited for my turn and on respective counter I submitted those docs and got Birth Certificate from govt office which is needed for Passport of kid in Saudia.
So, I suggest you that you should go to Ahwal-e- madinah office in respective City, as different cities has different procedures, I lived in both Riyad and Jeddah, and found out flexible conditions in Jeddah but strict in Riyad.
And yeah buddy, If you go late after 3 months for registration, there is a penalty in riyals. So do get birth certificate as early possible.

    Regards.

Just ask at the hospital, they will tell you where to take your paperwork.

Let me back up and say that as a woman, I don’t get to do my own paperwork and have to leave it up to my husband (which is frustrating, to say the least). I stated Ministry of “Health,” however I could be mistaken about which Ministry handles the paperwork as I’ve not been there myself.

As i am aware of the process for temporarily certificate,
log on to moi.gov.sa take the appointment from there, fill the form 87, go to Ahwal Madani office, in Nasirya in riyadh, they will issue you the temporal certificate.

I don't know the process for permanent certificate. as well as I don't know about ministry of health as Aisha said.

    Hi,

Aisha gave the exact and well written procedure for the issuance temporary & permanent birth certificate plus registration in your respective embassies.

I just want to add that the registering can be done at Consulates and visiting Consular team, where there is no mission of that particular country.

    Regards, Musheer

    Salam alaikum,

Sallman, you are wrong. The hospital does not issue a birth certificate. They issue a report of birth which you take to the health ministry. They issue a TEMPORARY birth certificate, good for one year. Then you have the temporary birth certificate translated to your language and take it, along with the original temporary birth certificate to your embassy for a birth report abroad from your country and a passport.

After one year, you return to the ministry of health to show your child has had his vaccinations and then they give you the permanent birth certificate.

    Best regards,

    Aisha, Natural Mom
Childbirth Educator and Doula in Saudi as well as mother of eight children...two who still have only their TEMPORARY birth certificates simply because my husband hasn’t had time to go to the ministry of health to request their PERMANENT ones.

    You are wrong.
Birth certificate is issued by the hospital where the child is born,
that certificate has to be taken to the embassy for verification, upon which they will issue passport.
There is no such thing as a one year waiting time.
