Costa Rica Forum: European driving license: valid in Costa Rica?

Veröffentlicht im Costa Rica Forum

  • Me and some friends are thinking of travelling around Costa Rica for a few weeks. We planned to rent a car to see as much as we can of this country. The question is now, is a driving license from Europe valid in Costa Rica? Or do we have to get an international one? And where can we apply for that?

    Regards, Edvin

You can drive with your driver license as long as it is up to date.

    !

Rigoberto, I am afraid, you're wrong by that! As a foreigner you only can drive the first 3 months with your license. After that, you need to leave the country for 72 hours, and come back. Than you can use it again. If you are a foreigner wit permanent residence, you need to get a national license, which needs to get switched every 2 years.
    Hope, that helped ;-)!
