Costa Rica Forum: Visiting in February

  • This will be my third trip to CR. I love the place and hope to relocate there in the next year or two. Finding a way to do this is difficult.

On the 26/27 I will be attending the ARCR relocation seminar in San Jose. Then on Saturday I pick up a motorcycle for a ten day tour. I plan on seeing the southwest part of the country and also the central valley. I have visited other areas on prior trips. Mostly I want to meet folks that have made the move and learn from them.

I wish I could spend more time in country on this trip. That would involve quitting my job and selling my house. Tough things to do in this economy.

If anyone has any ideas on becoming an expat in Costa Rica please join in!

  • Dear Richard,

I can tell you that the southern pacific area of Costa Rica is a great place. The Pan Am highway comes right from Dominical down the coast to Panama which is an awsome motorcycle trip! I would come down from San Jose via San Isidro which is a relatively nice mountain road and then from San Isidro down to Dominical where you can begin touring the southern zone.

Differences between here and everywhere else would be the geography. The mountains fall into the ocean here. Primary growth rainforest is abundant. Waterfalls, rivers and beaches are top notch. I would check out www.sanisidrocr.com to learn about things to do in the southern zone and also real estate ownership information for expats.

    motorcycle trip

    Hi Max

Thanks for the information. I understand tht the coast between Quepos and Dominical is beautiful also, but the road is not so good. I'll be riding a street legal dirt bike so that would not be a problem.

I wonder about riding the main roads on a weekend. On my first trip I drove from Puntarenas to San Jose late on a Sunday. The traffic was amazing! I would feel safer on a rough mountain road.

    Roads

The is relatively straight and easy from Quepos down to Panama so you shouldn't worry about that and traffic is negligable, even during the high season. If you want a good Costa Rica map check out www.goseecr.com and search costa rica maps. There are a bunch of good ones. If you have a GPS you will find programs there to download for it as well.

    Pura vida,
