    Hello All,
I have been applying for positions in Dubai (& UAE) in the field of Construction Management for quite a while now with no results.
I'm wondering if these boards are effective for anyone of you who are looking for positions in the same field as mine or are they all bogus.
    Anyone have input?
    Thanks.

    jobs in construction

hi steve... job portals are legit but sad to say the construction industry has been badly hit by the economic crisis. many have lost jobs in the industry and are still losing it at this time since a lot of projects were put on hold indefinitely. the same goes for the other countries in the region since ex-dubaians transferred after losing their jobs here. No indication yet when the crisis will be over.

    Hello again Rhea,
Thanks again for your response. Do you know anything about the job market for construction management in KSA?

    construction job

what i know is that those who have been displaced in the UAE transferred to KSA, Qatar and other Middle East countries. We have a construction vertical in our company but the team are doing projects now in relation with the oil & gas sector. Building construction has been saturated or if they ever receive some requirements it is usually on a short term contract (i.e. 6 months to 1 year) which is just enough to finish projects nearing completion. If you are based in US you have tough competition from displaced western expats currently based in the GCC. What I can suggest though is if you know anybody personally in any of the construction companies here it is better to go thru a personal network right now. Because if companies have a need for western expat they would request from headhunters to get locally based candidates. In any case you can send your CV to my email in case something comes up.

    response to prakash

Hey prakash i dont know where u got your info and why you are not informed about your industry. Read my exchange with Steve carefully. THERE ARE NO CONSTRUCTIONS JOBS in Dubai because of the crisis, projects are on-hold or cancelled.

    For Tamiz

If you are looking for a job in the Middle East it is best that you specialize in a particular field or industry. Companies that hire thru executive search firms requires candidates with extensive background within the same industry i.e. Sales Manager for Cars would have to have at the very least 4-5 years experience in the same industry holding the same position or can be 1 step lower in the ladder but with longer experience.

You will have difficulty penetrating the market thru a headhunter ifyou are going to say on ANY kind of department. Headhunters looks for specialized role only.

My recommendation, review your CV and check your strengths and weaknesses and focus on your strengths. However, if you intend to change directions in your career then you have to be prepared to start in a lower category. Also, I suggest that you try to find an agency in your home country that sends people abroad.
