Want to learn Spanish as quickly as possible!

Posted in Argentina forum 19 May 2011, 15:33

I have recently made a big move over from the UK to Argentina and i am finding the language thing a real problem. I hardly speak any Spanish and was planning to have private classes, but i want to get the basics as quickly as possible. Does anyone have any advice??

I was looking at some of the top schools in Buenos Aires and there seems to be two main options.. intensive spanish courses or crash courses in Spanish. Does anyone have any advice on this?

i found this school Expanish http://www.expanish.com/ultimate-spanish-crash-course.php who do a crash spanish course. There appear to be others who combine tours of the city with Spanish lessons (not sure if thats just a marketing ploy?!) Any advice from people who have done crash courses would be appreciated. Are they worth it, or should i just go for it and do an intensive?

Advice appreciated!

    Spanish in Rosario

    Hello Jennie!
I am writing you from Rosario, where I am the owner and directer of a Spanish language program, Spanish in Rosario.
I see you are in Buenos Aires, where there is a whole lot more to choose from in the way of language schools.
So, here is what I know about a few places there, and hopefully it helps.
Expanish is a big school, they handle hundreds of students per month. They are likely to be the cheapest in the way of group classes and you will surely learn something, though will probably lack a bit of personalized attention. If you have no Spanish at all and are beginning from 0, I would recommend at least 40 hours of class time.
Another school that seems to be doing a great job there in BsAs is Vamos Spanish Academy (http://www.vamospanish.com) They work with smaller groups (3-6 students) and have a really nice organized feel to their program. We have received many students that studied there and wanted to continue studying in Rosario as it is a bit more off the beaten path and they have all brought positive feedback.
And of course, if you still are not convinced by the schools there in Buenos Aires, you may find that Rosario is, while still a good sized city, smaller and a bit less chaotic with far less foreigners (hence less temptations to speak English) whereby allowing you to excel quicker as you are truly immersed in the language.
I hope this has helped you! Feel free to consult me further. I am always open to helping fellow travelers!
    Chau!

    Hi Jennie!

Well, I don't know if it is too late...I think you might already have done a course...But I can totally recommend the Expanish Crash course!! I did it when I first came to Buenos Aires and it helps you a lot to survive in day-today situations. For the really first beggining this is a good and cheap! opportunity!
After that you still can have private lessons...

Well, hope you find a good Spanish School!

    Saludos
    Theresa
