spanish language
Posted in Argentina forum 03 Sep 2008, 02:34
There seems to be different types of Spanish to learn. I can buy a Latin American Spanish or a Spain Spanish, which, are Rosetta language programs. Which would be more useful if I were to come to BA? I've been to BA 5 times and I find it fun to hear Spanish with an Italian accent, which, makes me think that the Spain Spanish would be the better of the two.
I'm looking forward to learning and enjoying BA and Argentina again....

Hi Daniel, I do not know those programs, but I think the difference will be in the end between choosing mexican spanish and spanish spanish.
Of those, I think mexican is the most neutral of both. Spanish spanish has an awkward accent you would not want to mix with your american accent (look in youtube for any spanish person speaking english and you will see what I mean)In the end any of them will just do if you can communicate. It's all the same language with a few words different. It's like choosing between british english or canadian english. As long as you can communicate and feel comfortable using it, it will do.
If you are still interested in knowing more about each kind of spanish try to search on youtube videos from spanish people and mexican people speaking in spanish and listen to which you prefer.

Felipe, gracias, I have since bought the Latin American program and have been trying to "get into it." It shouldn't be hard but, I need to make it a hobby and have fun with it.
I'll try to listen in on youtube. That is a very interesting and smart idea.
Your english is very good.
Thanks for your help

Spanish in Argentina

Hi all,
a friend of mine spent some time in Latinamerica and he told me that the Spanish spoken in Argentina differs the most from all the other spanish "accents" in Latinamerica, especially concerning the pronunciation of the words! Is that right? Will the people living in Argentina look strange at you if you come along with your "spanish spanish"??Anneke

Hi Anneke,
As most of the Spanish speaking countries we have different accents and we may prefer to use some synonyms more than others but we all understand each other well.
It will not be a language barrier having a different accent. As a matter of fact, as the difference is not big, I have seen a few tourists that chose to switch accents. -

I agree to Felipe. The Argentinian accent is actually quite "cute" - and though they do use some different vocabulary and grammar you shouldn't have a problem understanding it. And certainly they don't mind if you speak with another accent!

People from Argentina speak Spanish with an Italian accent

Soy maestro de italiano y hablo espanol. Los Argentinos hablan espanol con accento italiano. 3/4 de Buenos Aires son de origen italiano. Me gusta como hablan los Argentinos.
I'm an Italian teacher and I speak Spanish. People from Argentina speak Spanish with an Italian accent. 3/4 of the people of Buenos Aires are of Italian origin. Argentina has a population of just over 30 million with 24 million being of Italian origin. I like how Argentians speak.
Here in California we have Hispanics from all 21 Spanish speaking countries. I have no trouble understanding anyone of them.
I watch TV in Spanish all the time. Have no trouble understanding the
Spanish from Spain either. Different accent and a few words are different.
Hell, even Italian is 70+% the same as Spanish. If I can understand Italian
how would I have any trouble understanding Spanish. Have been speaking Spanish longer than Italian and I'm an Italian teacher now.
