Offer in Bahrain - indecisive - need advice
Posted in Bahrain forum 27 Dec 2011, 03:22
I got a good offer from a reputed company in Bahrain. I am excited for that but after consulting a few friends, I've recieved mixed responses.
A couple of them say, I need not worry about economic problems or social problems when I am dealing with a reputed company as they'll take care of it in times of crisis.
Others says that the situation in Bahrain is not good as many companies are closing shop and moving to Dubai or elsewhere. They are speculative about protests erupting again and businesses going down and other negative aspects.
I am really confused now. Well putting it in a forum might enhance the confusion. Nevertheless, I would like to get honest opinions from different people.
I really like the offer and I've got a week to decide or I lose it.
I've gone through the web through several articles but really couldn't find anything negative about the business, ofcourse unless the protests happen again.
Please post your advices ...

Hi Maverick,
Welcome to the forum! To be honest, the protests did affect business in Bahrain, but things are picking up now, especially due to the extra effort by the rulers and the government to boost activities and business.
Unless your position is in Sales/Marketing or Operations in a really small firm, where any loss in business leads to temporary/permanent layoffs, you should not be worried as much.
Most of the job cuts that took place were of those people who participated in the protests, small consulting firms just relocated/shifted since most of their head offices were in Dubai. Also, last week, many of those who were fired from govt offices for participating in the protests were re-posted to their jobs! All in all its fine now. And once you are here, working, you can always look in for other opportunities here or elsewhere.Follow our daily : http://www.gulf-daily-news.com/ and you will notice the improvements since the protests in March this year.
Hope all this helps toward your decision. Good Luck!

That was a quick response and a positive one. Thank you very much Aravinth. I too am optimistic about that. Will keep the forum posted about any improvements on the offer front.
But honestly, I have a positive feeling after reading your post. Thanks again.
