Could anyone advice me if this is true? It is hard to believe so as there are so many international students live in here.
Thanks!

Well that sounds weird. Maybe it's policy of the bank. If you want to, you can try at Fortis Bank, my friend from spain opened her account there and she's a student too.
Good Luck! -

11 Sep 2008, 20:16My experience trying to open a Belgian bank account was horrible. The problem is that the staff at Belgian banks seem really unprepared to admit they don't know something, or how to do something. Rather than just saying "I don't know", they claim things are impossible, or invent imaginary laws on the spot.
ING offers non-resident accounts, specifically for people who aren't permanent residents of Belgium. If you don't have any luck with Citibank and Fortis, try there.

I got it open with ING! Thank you very much for your help!

Hi Sam,
If I were you I would try KBC Bank. They are very open and I think you should not have any problem to open an account there.
Good luck!
