Unemployment benefit

Posted in Belgium forum 01 Aug 2011, 14:07

Hi.

I am new to Belgium. Came over from the Netherlands in February when I moved to Antwerp. I am currently privately renting an apartment there on my own. I have registered and currently I am awaiting my National Identity card.

I still work in the Netherlands full time. I commute over the border each day. I have worked (and paid all my taxes and SS contributions in the Netherlands for the last 3 years. (Since I arrived in the Netherlands from the UK).

I have a question about unemployment.

Scenario: If I was made unemployed in the Netherlands…

Q. What unemployment am I entitled to? Is it a % of my former salary?
Q. Who would pay it…the Dutch or the Belgian authorities?
Q. How long do they pay for?
Q What are the terms/ impacts of my living / residing in Belgium and working in the Netherlands?

Thanks in advance

Patrick

1,75% of your former salary within the 6 months. then you get a little bit less afterwards
2, normally it is paid by RVA. then you get your document ready for the trade union. then in fact you only deal with trade union or hulpkas
    3. normally they pay it as long as you dont have work. but you have to prove you are active search for work. in some case. 2 years for young people. if you are above 50 years. they also understand you can not easily find work.
    4, no information.

as far as I understand. if A person can get unemployment benefit. he lose this job not voluntarily.
