Life in Canada

Posted in Canada forum 09 Jul 2011, 16:51

Hi everyone,

I'm new to Just Landed and wanted to say "Hi". We recently moved to Nova Scotia from the UK and are having a fantastic time. I'm happy to answer questions about the process of moving here and how we're finding it.

Thanks
Alex

I'm a Physiotherapist planning to move to Canada. I have inclination toward Ontario at the moment. Haven't done my credentials yet. How do you find Nova Scotia interms of social life? Is it more cold than UK?

I'm actually working in Singapore now - graduated from India and have completed my postgraduation @ New Zealand. I wish to know the exact ground situation for Physiotherapy immigrants coz i hear that its very difficult to get the license to practice there.

I would recommend Ottawa if you're thinking of moving to Canada. I was considering moving there but Cornwall fit better for me, for personal reasons. Here is a link to a webpage that offers information about moving to Ottawa. http://www.visitorstocanada.com/movingtoottawa.html

I have a friend who moved to BC and she is a physiotherapist. I won't lie to you, getting the right paperwork was a massive headache and involved lots of exams, but she persevered and is now working.

We liked Ontario when we visited and also have some family there, but the weather is much harsher. Very hot summers, followed by very very cold winters.

We are close to Halifax in Nova Scotia and the weather here is very similar to the UK, although more snow. Winters in the UK have been getting harsher so I don't think we will see a great deal of difference. We watched the temps here all of last winter and there was nothing too terrible.

Socially, Halifax has a lot to offer. We have a young child so don't really get out much - no babysitters lined up yet, but from what I hear Halifax has great bars, restaurants and everything else you might want. On the whole people are warm and friendly - and very helpful.

Any other questions then feel free to ask :)
