Portuguese citizen, 28 years old, Bsc and Masters degree... no job offer!

Posted in Canada forum

Hi y'all,

So, I've been trying for over a year to be offered a job offer in Canada. I see a lot of people on this board do not know exactly what it takes to move to Canada with the intent to work and frankly, I don't blame them. It took me at least half a year to fully understand it.

So I know I need a formal job offer in order to be eligible for immigration. I also know that in order for an employer to formally offer me a job, he/she needs a positive Labour Market Opinion (LMO) which may take months and may even come out negative. This involves bureaucracy, headaches and most likely, money. Enough reasons for the majority of employers to think twice before even considering employing a foreigner. Makes sense.
Every now and then, certain nominee programs allow people to enroll in, even without a job offer. Problem is, this is generally to fill shortages in certain areas so they expect people who enroll to have previous experience in the designated areas.

I have a Bsc and Msc in the Music Technology field. I have worked as an AV technician for two years and have been working as a freelance recording and mixing engineer in several recording studios. I am currently the in-house engineer at a recording studio in my hometown, in south Portugal.
Canada is my dream country and I would be willing to move and work in other areas but I really wouldn't know where to begin.. I even applied for a job as a barman and got no reply. In fact, all the CVs I have sent to Canadian employers are yet to be replied to.

Is anyone else in the same situation ? ANY input would be appreciated.
Thank you :)
