Methods of payment in Toronto?

I will travel to Toronto for a little vacation and I was wondering about the money - are the cheques generally accepted? What about the credit/debit cards - are the foreign cards accepted? Is the payment with foreign card for free or will I always be charged with extra fee? Also, are the US Dollars accepted in Toronto?

Hi Sarah,
Cheques are not as readily accepted since there is now debit.....credit cards widely accepted as well as US cash....most places give exchange rate, but the difference is very little these days between US and Canadian. Your bank is who charge a fee as well as exchange rate.....local machines also charge a fee, usually 1.50-2.00 depending whether a bank machine or a generic money machine......but your bank is who is charging the fee for NOT using them.

LAS TARJETAS INTERNACIONALES SON ACEPTADAS EN TODO EL MUNDO. PERO TIENES QUE AVISAR A TU BANCO QUE VAS A VIAJAR AL EXTRANJERO PARA QUE NO LIMITE TU USO. YA QUE LO TIENE COMO MEDIDA DE PREVENCION CONTRA ROBO O EXTRAVIO. SOLO AMERICAN EXPRESS TIENE PROBLEMAS DE ACEPTACION EN ALGUNOS ESTABLECIMIENTOS.
