10 Aug 2009, 06:57Medical Degree recognitionMy husband is from the states and we are moving to reside in Greece. I am from Greece originally and we have been trying 3 years to get his medical license recongized. Its always on standby.
He is a doctor of Osteopath which is equivalent and has the same prevlages to a medical doctor in the US and UK. He wants to open a medical office and practice anywhere there is a need of a physician.
Note: There was a committee in Greece set up for approving US doctors but we have not heard any responses yet. There were 3 doctors with the same degree with my husband who received their licensee and are practicing now.Any suggestion or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I guess you have applied through DOATAP offices, haven't you? DOATAP is a center in Greece which recognises and equates degrees from abroad with degrees in Greece - everyone who wants to use a non-greek university degree in Greece has to go through this system (unfortunately). I had to go through this procedure for my degrees from UK back in 2004. Takes about a year or so for the completion of the process. Now I heard that people have also to take extra exams to have their degrees recognised. It's also important to get recognition of your 'degree marks', i.e. in UK marks are classed within a percentage range (with 75% or above being as first class), here in Greece marks are ranged up to 10 units. So, DOATAP issues a statement which relates those 2 marks.
Good luck (you will need lots of it).
