Professional Hungarian language tutor

Posted in Hungary forum 20 Jan 2012, 13:42

Hi. I am looking for a Hungarian tutor in Budapest. I am moving in October and am trying to get organised. I have been searching the internet and have found language courses at a school in Astoria so far. I am looking for any advice on language schools or private tutors locals could recommend; places I should consider, and places I should avoid! Any help or information would be most appreciated.
Thanks, Jill.

    Hi,
We just started Hungarian classes at CEU - they allow visitors that aren't enrolled as students to attend.

Central European University - post grad degrees, taught in English. I hear they offer some great scholarships if your interested in studying. Located right in the heart of Budapest. The 10 week language course, costs @ 37,000 for non-students. It meets 2 times a week, 90 minute classes. The profs are great. http://www.ceu.hu/caw/foreign-languages

    Hi Sharon,

Thanks this is really useful advice. I would love to study again, especially Hungarian language. I have looked at scholarshiops and have struggled to find one I would qualify for. I am no longer a student in the UK and work full time now. I will have a look at your link and let you know how I get on. Thanks again, Jill

    Hi Jill,

I go to the Balassi Institute, to the beginner level. They have different levels and schedules (morning/late afternoon). The classes are in Hungarian all the time, we are a small group (7 people) at least in the afternoon and the teacher is quite good (he is a doctorate).
