    Living costs in Ireland

I heard that the living costs (especially the rents) are really high in Ireland..Is it true?

  • Hi Tom!
As far as I know, Dublin is on place 8 of the most expensive towns in the world.
But it also depends on where you're planning to go. If you go west, then life can be a lot cheaper:

It might sound like a cliché but in the West the cost of living is much less than you think. That’s one of the huge benefits for people who move West: money saved on mortgages, childcare and other essentials goes towards holidays, investment or lifestyle.

Hard statistics prove that food and drink is cheaper than in Dublin - salmon steak is 23% cheaper and a 2.5kg bag of potatoes over 12% cheaper, even the pint of stout costs 9% less. Visiting the hairdresser saves you money, a ladies wash, cut and blow dry works out 18% less expensive and the men do even better saving an incredible 41% on their short back and sides. It's a fact that the cost of living in the West of Ireland is cheaper. See the Price Comparison Table for the latest CSO price comparisons.

Buying a house is one of the biggest investments people make and the good news is that it’s a lot cheaper to buy or rent property in the West than elsewhere in Ireland. It’s great value - you’ll get more space for less cost.

    Did you know?

    * The average new property price* in the West of Ireland varies from €314,801 in Galway right down to €223,327 in Donegal. In Dublin it is €427,343.
    * Rental is also cheaper as a new 2-bed apartment will cost you €631 per month in Connaught - compared with €1,487 in Dublin 6. Even in Galway City the rental cost is only €961 a month.

    haha

Dublin is Crazy Expensive.... Ireland overall is an expensive place, and well property is really expensive in ireland whether you rent or buy lol.

The Further away from Dublin you go, usually the cheaper unless you get close to another City like Belfast or Galway or something.

About Property Again.... where i am from which is the south east of ireland is the posher parts of ireland ... but i live about 1.30 hours away from Dublin and well you can buy a 2 bedroom apartment for about 130k or a 2 bed house for 150k Which is half the price as it was last year.

Rent is about 600-700 for a 4 bedroom house which is bad but still reasonable compared to last year ha.

Any other Question i will try answer for you.

Can someone guide me on income tax please? For a single person is it 20% for the first Euro 36,400 and 41% thereafter? Is there any other tax deducted from the salary?

    tks for your help

    Income Tax

Yes, there are more taxes sadly! Income levy, PRSI and health levies of differing rates. But there are also Tax Credits which means you probably wont pay tax on the first €17k+ of your income

We have calculators and information on Income Tax over at www.redoaktaxrefunds.ie. If you have any questions, just drop us a message and best of luck with the move.

It is true that Ireland is not cheap. However, rents have been dropping in the apst few months.
