visa and work permit clarification

Posted in Ireland forum 08 Feb 2011, 15:23

Hi. So I am an American living in Germany with my German husband and we were thinking of moving to Ireland. I have my German work permit and temp visa.... next year it will be permanent.... Do I need to apply for a whole other visa and work permit to live and work in Ireland? Since Germany is a member of the EU as well as Ireland I am not sure what all needs to be done. Also if we move there will my German visa and work permit still be valid if/when we return to Germany? Any clarification on this for me would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. : D

Yes u need to apply for another visa .. Germany and Rest of EU are all on schengen zone … except UK and Ireland .. thats why u need to be having irish work permit ..!
but they dont ask ur address in ireland so u dont have to worry about that ..
i would say u should not tell authority that u are leaving germany .. so that when u come back they r just gonna think that u were on holiday
