Cell phones in Korea

Hi! I'm looking for info on how the cell phone system works in Korea (for http://southkoreaforum.net). Is it true that the only network available is CDMA2000?
How about if you have a compatible phone bought from Europe like Samsung Galaxy, can you use it in Korea and get a prepaid/contract SIM for it? Or is it mandatory to have the phone bought from the operator? If so is it possible to just by the cheapest phone with SIM card and transfer the SIM card to your real phone? Thanks in advance!
