Any suggestion for protecting my house while I am away?

Posted in Spain forum 12 Aug 2011, 10:36

I currently live in the UK and have my second house in Alicante. After my summer break in Spain, I will be coming back to the UK and am worried about the security of my house. I don’t feel that my property is well protected by using only alarms. I asked my property manager and the only thing he suggests is the use of alarms.

Could you provide any other suggestions apart from this solution? I have heard about gangs breaking into houses not only to steal our goods but also to steal the copper from the electrical installation. I don’t even want to think about squatters. Please help! I’d like to sort it out before the end of September. Thanks all.

    Steel doors

Isabel, we share the same problem. I do have alarms and CCTV installed but feel my house in Malaga is not well protected at all. Last February, some kids broke into and by the time the guards got there, the damage was done. Of course, the security company did not take any responsibility.

Here in the UK there is a company, Safe Estates, and they fit steel doors and windows to protect abandoned buildings and vacant houses. They do not work in Spain, but there should be something similar other than use bricks or metal bars. I am still looking for, let me know if you find something.
    Cheers

    Good morning,
I am French and it is a bit incidentally that I read your message. I am inscribed to the agency of the job of France as Agent of security, canine driver. I have a virgin police record agreed. I can offer you an echange to live at you during your abscence, against a small sum a month which we shall admit together. This respecting the Spanish legislation. If idea seems to you allowable contact me: […]
