Basel forum: Can an american bought Wii work in basel with a tv bought in basel?

  • Hello!

I have just accepted a position in basel to begin work on february 2 2009. I am preparing to move my family from the USA to basel, and we are looking at what we should move and what we should leave behind.

We have a nintendo WII which is my youngest daughters prize possession. I know that devices in the USA are NTSC and Swiss is "digital"... are there any americans out there that have suggestions on what will and wont work over there? would an american WII work with a newer tv purchased in switzerland?

Our current TVs are tube type, heavy and cumbersome and not worth moving. But the wii is not heavy or large, and replacing the system and all the games we invested in would be expensive.

    Any advice/suggestions?

    American-bought Wii

    Hi, Michelle.

We just came to Basel this month, with our Wii in hand. We bought a TV in Basel that is compatible. Most TVs we saw had those white, red and yellow input jacks that the Wii plugs right into, and it accepts the signal.

Your bigger issue is power, of course. I'm sure you know that Switzerland runs on 220V/50Hz, while the US is 110V/60Hz (I think). Make sure you bring power converters (not just plug adapters). Buy them in the US, as they are difficult to get and very expensive here.

    Ken
