26 Oct 2009, 14:30Car Hire ZurichHello! My brother and I are planning to go to Zurich for 4 days to see as much as possible we would like to hire a car. Could you advice a reliable car hire company, please? Because it would be partly a business trip, that is why it is important to us to get a car! Thank you very much in advance!

Hi there!
You can always go with the well known international companies like Avis, Hertz, etc. They had good cars and they work in Zurich. Check their websites and you can even reserve online. On the other hand, public transportation is pretty good: tram, trains and buses are reliable and cover all the city... so it will depend on what are your plans.
Hope this helps.

05 Nov 2009, 14:23Speaking about Decode Car Hire Zurich, I am very satisfied with their service. They confirm my reservation within 24 hours as it is mentioned at their website. Besides, I am from Ukraine which is not EU member and it is my first car hire, that is why I had a lot of questions about driving license, insurance, etc. And their staff kindly provided all necessary information. So, now I am ready for my trip!
Byron, thank you very much for offering help... actually, I would like to find out about parking place in Zurich center in business days. Because it is a big problem in Kiev, Ukraine. Is it easy to find a free place there? And how much does it cost?

First, "cheap" (or "free" and "Zürich" should not be used in the same sentence.
There are parking garages and paid parking in the streets (but hard to find thou). If you want location and costs for the parking garages check:
http://www.pls-zh.ch/
The hourly rate goes from 3 to 5 swiss francs as the parking duration increases
The street parking is for up to 2 hours.
The main problem for automobile drivers in Zurich is the time needed to navigate through the city's fairly complex street pattern and then find a parking space.
Many people would recommend to park outside the city center (where street parking can cost less) and then use Tram/buses to get into the center. But then you should add the cost of the public transportation. Depending on how many are you, this alternative can be cost effective...
Does your hotel has parking space? does they charge extra for using it? Is the hotel far away from a tram/bus station?
Let me know if you need more help.

Byron
