  • Hi,

I know that if you are moving to Switzerland to study, you have to show some proof of financial means.

Is there such a thing when you want to move for work? Is there a link I can refer to for more information?

    Thanks!

    Roula

  • Hi again

From what I know is not exactly like that, in the case of moving to Switzerland for work you need:

    - Residence Permit (since you are european you don't need to apply for a work permit, and you only apply for a residence permit if you are staying more than 3 months): To get it you need a work contract, id and an address (can be temporary)

    - Registering in the comune: You only need the residence permit (only sometimes the work contract) and pay the fee.

    - Health insurance: Is mandatory by law since the first month, for it you need the residence permit and again an address.

    - Bank account: Depending on the bank you may need the work contract and the residence permit.

    - Housing: This is difficult to tell, every agency can ask for different things, but most common is: work contract, residence permit, 3 slips of salary and/or official paper saying you don't have any debts in Switzerland.

I would say that the only thing you need to move to Switzerland is a work contract, with that you can get the rest of the papers you need to live here

  • Hola Jose!

Thanks again, it's great to have this list...

The work contract: Does it have to be a for a permanent job or can it be for contract?

The 3 slips of pay: Would that be for the job you get in Switzerland?

How much time does it take to get a residence permit? Can you apply for this before you move to Switzerland?

  • -Work contract: It doesn't matter if its not permanent, but only with a permanent one you can go for a B permit (for 5 years), otherwise you'll get an L permit (1 year or less)

-Yes, the 3 slips of pay are for the job in Switzerland.

-The thing about the permit is that you need an address in Switzerland, so its difficult to apply before coming here. In my case it took around a month to get it, but it depends, and if you have a partner who is getting a permit through you it takes longer.

You can find official information about the whole process here http://www.bfm.admin.ch/bfm/en/home/themen/schweiz_-_eu/aufe

    hello

    HI Jose,

to me it sounds like you are very positive on what you have said. I want to why it has been so hard for me to find a job.

I have sent hundreds of email, with refusal I wonder if its because I still live here in NY.

In order to get a working permit I need to get a job, this i know. my next questions is lets say if I get marry to my swiss lady will i get better chances ?

    Please advice,

    Thanks,

  • Well, I would say that you would have better chances, since if you already have residence permit from your marriage its one obstacle less for a company wanting to hire you. I think work permits in Switzerland for people outside of EU are difficult to get.

Saying that, of course doesn't mean that still it will be easy, if you want to improve more the chances, learn the language, improve your skills toward the job you want to get, etc.. Anything you can think about.

    And good luck!
