I would expect to have around Rs100'000 p.m. left over of my salary, after having paid for housing, but before living expenses. I am considering moving to Mauritius around October 2009. I have just visited Mauritius to find out about the job and the country. Can anyone give me a tip or advice as to whether this sum is reasonable for a comfortable life style in Mauritius under current circumstances. I shall be grateful for any comments. Many thanks.

Agree with DS Murray... compare apples to apples...

Living here and being a tourist are two completely different stories, the same as comparing life styles in different countries...

    Hello Juan,

In fact, 1 Euro is about Rs 45.

Food, cloting, accommodation are much affordable, unless you like dining out.

When do you plan to come over, and may be I may be of any help to you.

    Feel free to contact me.

The cost of living is advertised as cheap, but it's actually not the case at all if you plan to maintain the same sort of lifestyle that you are used to as an expat.

Vehicles are expensive, rent is OK, but utilities (electricity) is very expensive if you like air-conditioning... :)

Schooling is a problem in English, and there aren't as many facilities or amenities as you'd expect.

If you like the beach and the sea, then there are things to do.
