Diane Schuur to Perform with the Reno Jazz Orchestra in Reno, Nv

Multi-GRAMMY star and super-stellar jazz vocalist, pianist, and composer Diane Schuur joins the Reno Jazz Orchestra (RJO) for two performances in Reno, NV on August 22, and Incline Village/Lake Tahoe, NV, on August 23, 2021.

Known for her pitch-perfect execution, crystalline three-and-a-half octave vocal range, and electric personality, Schuur will share the stage with the 17-piece orchestra who will present jazz, blues, and big band tunes.

“We look forward to performing with Schuur who redefines the ‘diva' category with her warm, often humorous, and relaxed interactions,” said Chuck Reider, music, and executive director of the Reno Jazz Orchestra.

“Over the years, Schuur has established herself as the consummate vocalist in all musical settings. In addition to touring the world with her quartet, or appearing as a special guest with symphonies, she often takes the microphone in front of traditional big bands such as she will with the Reno Jazz Orchestra,” said Reider.

The Reno, NV, show will be presented at the Nightingale Hall on the University of Nevada, Reno, campus at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, 2021. Long regarded as one of Contemporary Jazz's leading vocalists, Diane Schuur is as eclectic as she is brilliant. Born in Tacoma, WA, Schuur was blind from birth, but she was gifted with perfect pitch and three-and-a-half-octave vocal range.

She initially taught herself piano by ear and later received formal piano training at The Washington State School for the Blind, which she attended until she was 11 years of age.
