South Church Unitarian Universalist Church

292 State Street, Portsmouth, New Hampshire 03801, United States Map

Many of the old slate roofing tiles date back to the construction of the church in 1826. Quarried in Wales, they were likely transported to Portsmouth as ballast in the bottom of a sailing ship. The slates are approximately 11 x 20" and weight about 4 pounds each. They make great charcuterie boards, house number signs, clocks and planters. They are fabulous canvanses for painters, given their size and texture. All proceeds will help offset the cost of the new roof on one of downtown Portsmouth's beloved and historically important places.
