Can I practice my Russian in Estonia?

Postado em Estónia forum

Is it possible to practice my Russian in Estonia or not? A friend of mine is in Lithuania and he told me that there, trying to talk in Russian is considered as an insult and most of the time, people refuse to answer, even if they understand the language.
Is it a sensitive subject in Estonia also or not? (I mean with Estonians, with Russians, I think there won't be any problem :) )

    Kim,

I'm afraid you're very uninformed. I'm sure Sergio will be able to practice his Russian in Estonia, but if he is a foreigner then it might insult Estonians, because it implies that he thinks Estonia is Russian... And even though this might not be true, it might still insult some people.

Also the 65% Russians and 35% Estonians is very wrong. There are 70% Estonians en 25% Russians. In Tallinn, the capital, it's 52% Estonians and 39% Russians, but most Russians live in the commieblock districts where the ratio is 90% Russians.

The commieblock districts (especially Lasnamäe and Kopli) however, also have the highest crime and murder rates, so I would suggest you don't go there.

Certainly u can practice russian language in Estonia. There are living 65% russians and 35% estonians.. mm I think so:).But russians speak in both languages)and some estonians too)So u can practice here as russian language as estonian too)
"A friend of mine is in Lithuania and he told me that there, trying to talk in Russian is considered as an insult and most of the time, people refuse to answer, even if they understand the language." may be some people trying not to speak Russian, but not all.
