In my opinion Utrecht is one of the nicest cities of Holland! Enjoy your stay!

Lombok is a nice area, close by the center, reasonable prices and a lot of activity!
Least favorite: Kanaleneiland or Zuilen

I just had a quick look but I would stay out of Southwest area. I prefer Northwest, but this is all I know for now. And btw I am still looking for housing, would love to share with internationals, so if you need a room mate you know where to find me;)
