Ventilation is needed both for moist and for heat. Many houses in the Philippines are wrong built under the roof. It's common with "highways" for mosquitos to get in and many haven't even cheap insulation so such houses become unnecesary hot.
Simplified: Build so mosquitos can't fly in and with ventilation. Separate airflow between the roof and the insulation.
A ventilation at TOP of roof can reduce heat much but they are more complicated to make correct. A foreigner did built a well insulated and with such top ventilation house in hotest part of Thailand. He has AC but need it seldom, just use slow fans to assist the air to get up.
