Have We Got Women For You!
The easing of lockdown has not come quickly enough for our friends at Women in Journalism to have their usual ‘end of term’ Summer Party so we’ve been enlisted to create a virtual celebration instead! In the absence of any of our own live events for the foreseeable future, how could we resist?! Plus, as a not for profit community we can raise some much need funds to support our ongoing 2020 Funny Women Awards and outreach activity.
Join us for an hour of brilliant comedy, hosted by our very own ‘matron’ Jo Brand, for a live event loosely based on a certain television panel show. A team of comedians take on the journalists to explore the news and have some fun.
For the comedians:
Shazia Mirza is an award winning British stand up comedian and writer whose TV and radio appearances include ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’, ‘Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls’, ‘Celebs In Solitary’, ‘The Museum of Curiosity’ and ‘Woman’s Hour’.
Lucy Porter is a stand up comedian as seen on TV shows such as Live at the Apollo, Would I Lie to You and QI. She’s also a regular on BBC Radio 4’sThe News Quiz and the Now Show.Lucy is a keen amateur quizzer, having won Celebrity Mastermind and The Chase, and presents the successful quizzing podcast Fingers on Buzzers.
For the journalists:
Helen Lewis is a staff writer at The Atlantic and author of Difficult Women: A History of Feminism in 11 Fights. She appears regularly on BBC Radio 4’s News Quiz.
Ayesha Hazarika is editor of the Evening Standard’s Londoner’s Diary, a broadcaster, stand up comedian and former Labour Party advisor.
Our ‘news’ content for the event will be expertly curated by Sally Holloway, author of The Serious Guide to Joke Writing, who will help us select the topics and media stories for our teams to discuss.
We want you to get involved too. Please ask a question about the news, to include current affairs, media personalities or showbiz topics, that you would like Jo Brand to ask our panel in the CUSTOM QUESTIONS when you boo
