Science Sunday Funday: Learn all about the Periodic Table of the Elements
The Cape Cod Science Cafe is an award-winning informal science educational outreach program and a cooperative effort between the Northeastern Section of the American Chemical Society and PID Analyzers, LLC. The Sandwich Public Library is hosting our Science Sunday Funday Celebration of the International Year of the Periodic Table on Sunday December 15, 2019 from 1pm-3pm.
This family-friendly event for everyone event features learning about the Periodic Table through hands-on activities (1pm-3pm) and through lecture with The Periodic Table Talk (2 seatings).
The Periodic Table is a common language for science:
"The Periodic Table of Chemical Elements is one of the most significant achievements in science, capturing the essence not only of chemistry, but also of physics, medicine, earth sciences and biology.1869 is considered as the year of discovery of the Periodic System, and Dmitri Mendeleev was a major discoverer. 2019 will be the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements and has therefore been proclaimed the “International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019)” by the United Nations General Assembly and UNESCO".
Cape Cod Celebrates IYPT2019:
One engaging speaker, Dr. Jens Breffke, giving the same talk twice (2 seatings). Ideal for high school/college students and adults.
Hands-on Periodic Table themed activities will be led by area STEM stakeholders including educators, STEM-related business owners and three American Chemical Society local sections will be represented. Ideal for elementary/middle school students.
