How long does it take to get a basic knowledge of the Russian language? Is it very hard to learn (especially the writing)?

The reality is that Russian is difficult to learn. Ignoring the tomes of idiomatic expressions and the vast Slavic vocabulary, which extends far past the borrowed foreign words, the intricacies in grammar alone are plethora, as is understood when studying from a thorough textbook like ‘Russian, A Practical Grammar with Exercises’ – I. Pulkina. By ‘learn’, I really mean ‘master’. After studying Hebrew, German, and French (as a native speaker of English), Russian is easily, and by far, the most difficult. Now, I live in Ukraine, where I’ve often heard that English is easy to learn. (By the way, those who spout such haughty opinions are easily humbled.)Then why is it that native Russian speakers struggle so pitifully and for so long with English? I have also come across some rare individuals who claim to have learned Russian. OK, so they have to some appreciable extent. But they have definitely not mastered it. For instance, they cannot read a newspaper. They are lost if a complex sentence or idiom flies past their ears. As with any course of study, the question in mastering Russian is how much time to devote to it. The answer is hours a day for years. It is not an effortless undertaking.

Generally, in principle, discussed in Russian language is very simple - it is almost completely known and developed since childhood, I just learned some words even in adulthood, and even then they are either used by professionals or are deviant. But the writing - especially the complex is nothing but a lot of rules you must know I do not remember. Many words as phrases to remember major, knowing the rules of word formation, it is easy to understand, that means you hear the first time.

Yes, he studied Russian at school difficult, barely passed his exams, and the Institute regko, four passed the exam. In general, we must remember that Russian is usually what is taught in school, and speaking - in Russia, many people use foul language (mat) and prison slang (Fenya). And looking for something - to write in Russian is not too difficult, if remember a lot of the rules of spelling and punctuation, to say easy, because the pronunciation rules are simple.
Rohit Sharma, я тоже слушаю на русском только - металл, рок, шансон.

    Hello everybody,
Obviously, the best way to learn a language for communication is by interacting with people whose native language is the target.

35 years ago, I learned a "humble" chut chut Russian within months by not relying on an interpreter when I worked with Russian experts in the Iraqi air defense missiles brigades where I was collected by the army (compulsory service) after being graduated from the University of Technology as an Electrical engineer.

Since then I didn't talk to a single Russian but still feel that I can communicate in Russian conveniently at least to perform my daily needs if I happen to be in Russia (which is a wish of mine).

The best thing in Russian is you write what you speak and vice versa.
Russian is a very rich and lovely language, something like Arabic and Spanish.
