Importing Dog into Bahrain--Please HELP

Posted in Bahrain forum

Hi! I am in the military, have orders to Bahrain for a year. I would like to take my 2yr old, 6lbs, silky yorkie with me. I don't trust anybody to leave him with and i can't imagine a whole year without him. I just want to know what is the best way to get him into Bahrain. I already know the steps for quarantine, shots required, etc. but would like to know what my options are in getting him into Bahrain. He will be coming from San Diego, California and it will be during March early April 2011 timeframe. Do I pay for his international flight and have him fly with me in the cabin? i will not put him in cargo. Are there other companies that ships dogs? I just want to make sure that travel won't be bad for him. Thank you so much.

Hi there, Dr Nonie Coutts does no longer import animals. But I know she recommends Delmon kennels. Very nice, professional, no problems.

    Zahid,

Thanks for the info. Definitely will be looking into getting the Sherpa bag. :) The problem is, it will be the military who will process my travel so i just have to see what they are going to do with the doggie. But atleast i now have more info than before. Thank you.

    Regards,

You can bring him with you in the cabin in what is known as a sherpa bag. You can purchase one at any pet store or even at the airport if you are flying with United. United will charge you $125 for the "Pet in Cabin" fee all the way to Bahrain. There is a maximum of only 4 allowed on any flight and even though the chances are pretty slim that you would have 3 others bringing thier pets into the cabin on the same day and on the same flight, it has happened so make sure you make your booking early and tell them you will have a pet with you. Also remember that the sherpa bag will take the place of one carry-on bag so you will only be allowed one additional personal item to take on the airplane with you. Good luck!
