Cohabitation - Samenwoning contract

Posted in Belgium forum

Hello there,
Is there anyone among you that can enlighten me about Cohabitation? For the moment I live in Belgium and with my Belgian partner we will apply for cohabitation. But still the cohabitation procedure will not be finished before my residence permission ends. So between,I wont have an valid identity card for 2 weeks of so. The first rule; they told us, that we have to live in the same address and we do live in the same address but when we have to present our documents and when they see that my identity card is not valid anymore, will it be a problem? if any of u has an experience or safe knowledge, I ll be so glad to be informed.
Thank you

Please refer to this website...it is also in English...

if not mistaken you must both must find a room outside the country whereof your bf is a national ...if he is Belgium you can't apply for a card in Belgium, you must go and stay and apply for residence permit in another country...it is called the European route..
a country that is in the Schengen agreement....
as there are so many details...I just can't help much as it will take up a full time job for me to answer all the emails people send...please again study up on this website..

    success,

    Seri

    Hi Ritch,

I registered my partnership a month after my fiancée got his Belgium ID. Two weeks and few days after that I got police visit (on Friday-not always the same for other tho) and then on Monday my partnership was granted. Three weeks after that I sent our relationship proof to the city (they told us to). I supposed to get a respond within 4 weeks but until 2 months I heard nothing so I contacted them and resend the documents. A month after that, I got confirmation letter and then a week after I got another police visit. Two months after police visit, I got my orange card and had to wait for 5 months to finally get my 5 years card. So it's about a year since I registered my partnership until I got my 5 years card. Quite a procedure ;) But thank God everything run smooth.

    Good luck with yours.

    Hi everyone,
Can anyone tell me more about the risks of this agreement. Especially if the two parties separate. Do i still need to pay the other partner the health bills and insurance for up to 3 and half years.
Thats what i found on the web. is there any way to avoid this?
