Health insurance for dependent in Belgium

Posted in Belgium forum

Hi Everyone,

I will get married with a Portuguese guy who currently works in Ghent for about 1 year. I am pregnant now. I have 1 question: if I get married and move to Ghent with him, I will get some kinds of health insurance before and when giving birth in Ghent? (pregnancy check-ups, operation if any...)

Thanks for any advise,

Phuong

Thanks so much for your help. I am still in Vietnam, I would like to check if there're good condition for me to give birth there before going...If no, I will give birth in Vietnam...

As your message, If I go there now, I just get the medical card after 3 months living there?

One more time, thanks so much for your great help

i have some experience let me help you as you are pregnant in Belgium the government pays for your pregnants expenses until you give birth the good thing you will be in Ghent there you will not find too much language barrier
what you do immediately you arrive in Ghent go find Hospital from there if u have no healthy insurance they will give you document to take to nearest OCMW which will give you free medical card which is renewable after every three months, social worker will first come and confirm your address and also you will have to provide proof that you have lived in Belgium for more than three months hope this info will help you.
