Berlin vs Munich: which city is more expensive in RELATIVE terms?

Posted in Germany forum

Hi, everyone.

So here's the question: which city is more expensive in relative terms, Berlin or Munich?

It's well known that Munich is more expensive from the point of view of a tourist, but is it really that expensive from the point of view of a Münchener?

What I mean by this is that wages are higher in Munich, so maybe for local people the cost of living there will not be "high". The same could be said about Berlin; things are cheaper there, but wages are also low.

If, for example, a Berliner who makes 40K € a year can live the same way - that is, eat the same things, go to pubs/restaurants with the same frequency, buy the same cell phones, live in an equally big place - as a Münchener who makes 50K € a year (same job), then neither city would be considered "more expensive", right?

What do you think?

Regards

Munich is extremely expensive, especially if you live there. The rents are the highest in Germany. Berlin is on the rise as well but still affordable
