    Italy

I met them at a school, hung out with them almost everyday. I'm not talking about random German tourists!

But you get the jest of it. When you live in germany, you will have to deal with ordinary Germans doing their own things, and some of them get really nosy, some even become quite hostile towards non white population.

Not many Germans work / live with foreigners everyday. And Germany is a nation of angst, they are not fond of unknowns. Germany has an aging population, with lots of old folks with images of savage foreigners in their heads, who invade Germany and steal their jobs. And many young Germans were raised and taught the same ideology by them. And only the ones who got in contact with foreigners personally will open up to Auslaender.

It's a different experience for me in Germany as an Asian. You wouldn't see it as much since you are Caucasian. But this is the whole point. As a Japanese Canadian, I am treated like anybody else in Canada, and not much differently in France and Italy. But I do encounter nasty people in Germany more often than my comfort level. So obviously the "race" is an issue in Germany because I am treated differently according to my race (and isn't this the very notion of racism?)! And I do have a problem with Germans claiming that the racism in Germany is not worse than elsewhere because I, as a minority in Germany, experienced racism, or rather lack of basic respect for others, just like many of immigrants I met in Germany felt. I'm not asking Germans to treat immigrants like gods. Just some respect would do, not a praise or any special treatment, that anyone can expect from the locals in civilized countries.

It's just a matter of a principle. I get offended because racism affects me directly. But someone like Lovejoy, who is Caucasian also gets offended to witness utter racism because he also sees something very unique about racism in Germany. And no one is arguing that there's racism in every country. But you can ignore it and go on with your life in Germany if you like.

You tend to glorify Germans, and they love it! So you'll be fine. And I wish you luck in Germany if you actually move there.
