Do you still believe in EURO?

Posted in Greece forum

Dear people living in Greece,

I would like to innitiate a discussion: what do you thing of the EURO project? Do you think that the establishment of Eurozone helped Greece or caused it's problems in economy? What people in Greece generally think? Do they want to stay in Eurozone or they would prefer to return to the Drachma?

Best regards,

Matthias

    Goodmorning,

Common currency demands common ideas, values and policy. We are not there yet. Each country stills works for it's own benefit. Euro it's not enough. Some countries by saying no in the beginning, foretold the coming failure.

Blaming others and not your self it's the easiest and safest way. Though i blame EU for many things, i still have hope. I like the idea of being European first.

We all must be carefull and look for more information before we make judgements.
I am sure you noticed the rivalry that came to surface between German and Greeks. Stupid, if you realize there is nothing there. Just a lot of profit for few people

    Hi Kostas,

I am glad to hear this from you. I think the european media often portray Greece as the example of the failure of common currency. It can be easy to blame the EU or the Euro for the mistakes of goverment. It's true that if you weren't in the Eurozone, you will currently have some tools to adjust the macroeconomic indicators through monetary policy. But that is one of the few disadvantages of having Euro.

    Best regards,

    Matthias

    Hi,

Interesting? Euro currency as a project is a great one. Bad installation, and relaxation from the EU brought these results. There is not just a majority. It's who you are asking. Ask my grandfather, he will tell you "damn the euro".
Noone feels betrayed by the EU. Those who feel like that are ignorant. Money from the EU was coming for many years now. We can blame EU for many things, but not that.

Corrupted goverment, mostly, and then our not caring attitude brought us here.

    Best regards

    Hi Kostas,

thanks for your opinion! It's interesting to hear that you still believe in Euro despite the current problems. Do you think majority of Greeks think the same? Or do they feel betrayed by the EU or their government?

    Best regards,

    Matthias

The Euro project could do Greece a lot of good things. Bad policy from goverment allowed bad installation of the euro which caused overcharged rates in everything.
The result was for everything to become very expensive.
I am a fan of Euro, though with the current crisis is giving us a hard time as it excludes some ways of facing the crisis. All remains to be seen.
All the above is my personall opinion.
