Living expenditure in kuwait

Posted in Kuwait forum

Hi,

Basically I am a Environmental Engineer from India and I got a offer of 1400 KD per month and the working hours they told of 10 hrs onsite and friday is the only off day.

Friends please help me with these few questions as I want to know how much I can save monthly -

1) Like what would be the living expenditure for bachelor of 1 BHK, food, travelling, mobile expenditures, electricity, internet etc.
2) What would be the average salary in Kuwait of an engineer of having an experience of 4+ yrs.
3) What would be the tax deductions for the above mentioned salary
4) In Kuwait everybody is only getting off of one day (Friday) in a week or they are getting 2 days off and what are the normal or average working hours in a day in Kuwait.
5) In Kuwait companies are giving the relocation allowance or not.

Friends waiting for your reply.

    Hi,

I can try to help you out with the best I can

    1) Like what would be the living expenditure for bachelor of 1 BHK, food, travelling, mobile expenditures, electricity, internet etc-
It completely depends on your standard of living, if you are trying to locate at Al Farwaniya, you can find cheap rooms & food is also in good price. With around 1400 KWD you can easily save around 500-600 KWD with a decent lifestyle to enjoy. You can open a savings account in National Bank of Kuwait or so and can easily transfer you money whenever needed, check here- https://nbk.com/kuwait/personal/accounts.html. If you know the correct places you can have good foods at decent rate. Cost of petrol, electricity is low. Cabs & buses are available around the country easily. If you are planning to stay for long you can also apply for Kuwaiti driving license, check here- http://www.kuwaitup2date.com/conditions-issuing-driving-lice
nse-expats/. Internet can cost you around 70 KWD annualy you can also opt for monthly plans starting from 6 KWD.

    2) What would be the average salary in Kuwait of an engineer of having an experience of 4+ yrs-
Largely depends on skills, company & area of engineering, but I would say average salary could be around 2500 KWD, still largely depends on many factors. Have a look at the payscale to have a broader view- https://www.payscale.com/research/KW/Job=Mechanical_Engineer
    /Salary

    3) What would be the tax deductions for the above mentioned salary-
For salaried income tax is not deducted in Kuwait (Check here- https://tradingeconomics.com/kuwait/personal-income-tax-rate
    )

    4) In Kuwait everybody is only getting off of one day (Friday) in a week or they are getting 2 days off and what are the normal or average working hours in a day in Kuwait-
Normal working hours is 8 hours, but again it differs company to company. You can apply for OT if available in your company, also it is an Islamic Country so Fridays are off rather than Mondays

    5) In Kuwait companies are giving the relocation allowance or not-
It completely depends on the company, in my knowledge majority of the companies help you on the start to relocate.

    Best wishes

KD 1400 salary seems decent, depending on your decision what type of housing u choose & what lifestyle you adopt you will be able to save easily atleast KD 800 - 900. Again taxis normally take between KD 1 - 3 depending on the distance, mobile bill will be on usage can be anywhere between 5 to ............ not including international calls. Electricity is very cheap and mostly included in the monthly rent. Internet connection can be around KD 80 - 125 per year. There are no taxes in Kuwait, so no deductions. Weekly holidays can be 1 or 2 days depending on the company, however, govt offices are closed on Fri & Sat. Normal working hours again vary and can be 8 - 10 hours (some businesses are closed for 3 hours during the day). Relocation allowance depends on the company's policy some give it some do not.

There is a big Indian community here and you should be able to find good company. Getting a driving license may be difficult, and it may take some time before you get one, cars and fuel are quite cheap. Good luck!

My advice to you, No need to negotiate your salary, it's good salary with 10H, There're many sports clubs, but if you mean a night clubs you'll never find any here in Kuwait or even pubs, as I told you it's a muslim country which means (no wines - no pork - no prostitution) everything here go according to Islam regulations.

Actually I dont know about rain in Delhi but here it rains mostly in winter some days are heavy rains but it all goes direct to the rain drain so will not feel any problem after 15 minutes. for the car you can easily get a second hand car with a very good condition with a very reasonable price. for the people it depende on your luck, you might get friendly people around you and you better to see first like everywhere in the world. good luck and go ahead, will all look forward to see you here soon.

Thanks Mohamed Helmi. This organization is telling me to work for 10 hrs in a day and 6 weeks in a week. Then I guess I should negotiate to company regarding this or to increase the salary part. How about the clubs/pubs etc....
