Buying property as foreigner in Mexico

Yes you can. I bought property and built a house 2 years ago. I'm American and needed a passport and visa and few other personal documents. Everything was handled through the Public Notary and the Presidentia, no lawyers were necessary. The deed is in my name, they asked for a basic house design and location of the property (hand drawn, house and map of location). That was it, it may be a bit more complicated if you buy through a realtor or bank, mine was a private sale directly from the owner of the land.
One note, ensure that the person selling has sole right to sell. If his property was gained through an inheritance or death of a family member, all others that may have rights to the property have to agree to sell, if not, you will never have clear title to the land.
Also, Public Notaries in Mexico have more power than notaries in the US or UK, transactions carried out by them are perfectly legal, much less expensive than using a lawyer, and much simpler

    Good Luck
