There are always places available, but the Dutch real estate community likes to charge expats quite a bit more. Also, expect to pay 3 months of rent initially (one of which is service cost for the real estate agent which you won't get back). All my Dutch colleagues who rent went through a wait list to get cheaper housing (< 500 per month), but that is not possible for us because it takes a couple years! You can check out the following place:

You can also look on funda.nl which seems to be the site where most find there apartments. Best of luck!

    Hey,

Did anybody successfully meet up for drinks here. I definitely agree that Dutch people are somewhat difficult to start conversing with. However, if they see you a few time, they become quite a bit warmer. I guess that's just cultural differences. Anyways, if you guys are all hanging out, count me in!

    Hey Camilo,

    Still depressed??

I'm from Bombay India and yes it is difficult to talk to Dutch people. But once they get to know you, they are friendly. I've been in Groningen for over 2 years now and work as a freelance artist & designer.

Buzz me if you still don't have friends to go out with.

    Hi everyone!
I just landed in Groningen, and I'm starting to feel a bit depressed. Is not easy to meet Holland people in the street... so, if anyone want to hang out, take a beer of a coffee or something i'm interested.
I speak Spanish and Portuguese (Brazilian), and i would like to learn dutch, so if any one is interested in exchange classes... i'm in!!!
    hug!
