How peaceful is Peru?

Posted in Peru forum

Hi all,

I was recently going through the numbers of Global Peace Index and I was surprised to find Peru ranked 79 out of 144. How peaceful or dangerous is Peru in your opinion? Is there a reason to be affraid to travel to Peru as an tourist?

    Peru is not a dangerous country, there are cities with much more criminal rates in USA than Lima for instance. In general violent crimes are less in Peru than many countries in south America. Of course in any city of the world there are some dangerous areas that you have to be aware, probably the bad thing in Lima and other cities is that the public transportation is caotic and taxis from the street unreliable because most of them are not registered (do not use preferably) is better to call a taxi company. Another problem is that there are many corrupted police officers but if you respect the rules they can´t do anything against you, besides those issues walk, travel, living in Peru is pretty safe and a great experience

    Hello. So that Peru is dangerous, it is true that. but I think that like any other country is the same. you just have to be careful. and if someone offers you something, you must reject it. may be a scam.

    If you need more info tell me =)
    Regards =)
