    Hello Triin & Dargo,
we lived in Sao Miguel for 15 years and have a very nice guesthouse (rooms and apartment) in Joao Bom/Bretanha.
For personal reasons we are looking for a couple to manage our guesthouse from approx. March 2015 for the season 2015 or longer. You can have an idea by looking into https://www.airbnb.de/users/show/960484.
If you are interested please write us to [...] to go into the details.
    Good luck for you!
    Ralph

    Hello Triin,
I was glad to read your post. I hope you can find a way to stay at the Azores,
and I hope you will write about it on this forum.
I am interested about business opportunities at the Azores.

My name is Triin and I am an Estonian exchange student in the University of Coimbra. I came here with my boyfriend Dargo in August and although he sadly could not find work here, he was luckily offered the opportunity to work for an Estonian company via the Internet.
Although I finish my studies here in January, we are not yet ready to return to our home country, as we have become fond of the Portuguese people and culture and find the Azores an especially interesting place. Therefore, we would be more than happy to find work there and stay on the beautiful islands for a couple of months or for a longer time.
I am currently working on my MA thesis in Translation and Interpreting Studies and Dargo already holds MA degree in Science and Engineering (Geodesy).
In addition to our other work experience, we have worked in a hotel in Malta, and thus have experience in tourism industry, which is probably the field we could most probably find work in the Azores. In addition, we love being outdoors and are very adventurous. We are not afraid of hard work and long days and would be more than willing to work on weekends and start our days early and finish late.
As Dargo is very tall and has athletic build, he would be perfect for demanding physical work. Triin loves communicating with people and spending time with children. As Dargo is also interested in everything related to the sea and fishing, he would be glad to find work in a fishing boat or in a port. I would prefer the most to work in a guesthouse or a hotel. However, we would be glad to do any work available in the Azores. We both speak fluent English, but our Portuguese is still very basic.
We would be more than thankful for any kind of information related to finding work :)

    Hi Sergio,
    Thank you for that information.
I will have to do some diplomatic negotiations within my family.
I do not want to move there alone, and additional funds would be great.

    Hi Gabor,

Real estate is still relatively very cheap....if you manage to stay away from Sao Miguel and Terceira. Unfortunately there is no centralized listing such as MLS here in the US, but if you Google search you'll easily a variety of companies offering those services.

    Best,
    sergio

I still consider buying real-estate property in the Azores.
And I would always keep a boat handy. But that is just me: I like to have a boat.

    Hello Sergio;
Thank you for the correspondence. Yes, I would research all data from different angles.
Most of the time even the officials do not know the EU rules. Those are too new to them.
For example the VAT (value added tax) on boats is not well known in different EU countries.

The 20% tax is probably about income tax. Can you say anything about real-estate property taxes?

Seasteading is definitely an interesting thing. Seasteading is most probable first in the USA
in the Atlantic ocean, off the Florida coast. But that is just my opinion. The closest Europen
seastead to that could be close to the Azores. But this is just speculation.

Real-estate properties on the Azores are physical reality.

    More later, and thank you.

    Hi Gabor,

It's no problem at all! I just haven't had the time to respond. Your points are certainly valid, unfortunately..... It's the way of the world. I was intrigued by the concept of sea steading and I wouldn't be surprised to see that come to a reality in the future.

With regards to taxes, the average tax rates range around 20% for most people but it's certainly something you'd want to research more closely. The Azores still very much a product of old Europe, beaurocracy moves slow and with much red tape..... Although it's slowly changing

I would have liked to correspond more about taxes and wages and properties
on the Azores. If I expressed intense strong opinion, I am sorry.
May be more later here, and/or somewhere else.
    Respectfully;
