I have lived in L.A. for 37 years, during which time I have worked as an actress, Personal Mgr. & author. L.A. is a big city filled w/ con artists, so you do need some guidance to avoid the obvious pitfalls. Despite the recession, there is work in L.A. and the pay is better than most places. However, the cost of living is also higher.
I am also a realtor and have short term rentals that you may be interested in renting upon your arrival, rather than a pricey hotel or unknown rental.
