This year marks the changing of the guard, with a new committee in charge of organizing the 5K event. We would like to give our deepest gratitude to those who chaired the event for the past six years, raising awareness and funds for lung cancer research.

The current committee includes people who have been touched by cancer in many ways. Travis Osterman is a Vanderbilt oncologist, whose research interests include applying medical informatics to cancer treatment; Tara Watson lost her father and best friend, Gary Watson, in November 2016; Erica Collins, who has participated in the event numerous times, lost her mother, Diane Changas, to an almost 5-year battle with lung cancer in May 2016; Robert Pirtle is an avid runner, past event participant, and lung cancer survivor; and Leslie LaChance is a poet, freelance writer, and English teacher at Volunteer State Community College. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017 and blogs about living with cancer at Sojourn and Stardust.

Though lung cancer has affected each of us in a different way, one thing for sure is our shared goal to bring as much attention and funding to lung cancer research as possible by making this year's LUNGevity Breathe Deep Stache and Lash 5K as successful as possible!
