Children's Defense Fund-Ohio "Beat the Odds" Celebration

The CDF Beat the Odds scholarship program recognizes extraordinary high school students who have overcome adversity to achieve academic excellence, demonstrate leadership and continue their education.

The Beat the Odds event helps to raise awareness about the challenges facing Ohio children and the need for continued investment in research, data, community engagement and advocacy at the local and state levels on behalf of Ohio's most vulnerable children.The individual experiences and stories of the young people honored at the event inform CDF’s ongoing efforts to shape policies and change the odds for all children. Each year CDF-Ohio honors five scholars from throughout Ohio who have faced adversity and overcome their life challenges to achieve academic success, contribute to their community, and demonstrate leadership. The program helps to launch them into the next phase of their life and successfully transition into adulthood. To help ensure their continued success, each student receives a $5,000 scholarship, a laptop, and other support through the resources of the Children’s Defense Fund, its board and sponsors.
