Claudia Schmidt Brings Her Enormous Heart to Wild Rose Moon on May 11th at 8 p.m.

I fell in love with Claudia Schmidt’s musical persona in my early twenties when she performed at Amazing Grace Coffee House in Evanston, Illinois during the 1970s. I remember how her songs and stories blessed everyone with her great enthusiasm for living. Her work felt so unabashedly real and close to the surface, her songs were straightforward and lovingly presented, and her gratefulness for life’s experiences streamed out of her like a bright light. It was infectious, moving, and life-changing for me. For the longest time, I had her album with Broken Glass on it and somewhere along my own traveling around I lost it and lost touch with her career. Imagine my surprise, when I was contacted, as director of Wild Rose Moon about her touring the area. I felt I’d come full circle! Claudia will perform first on The Wild Rose Moon Radio Hour at 11 a.m. before a live studio audience; in turn, she will perform in an evening concert at 8 p.m.

Claudia has amassed a great deal of work and now and has recorded 19 albums. She accompanies herself on a mountain dulcimer and a big twelve-string guitar. If you want to experience a little touch of what I experienced so long ago, go search for her festival performance of Pete Seeger’s song, Old Devil Time, at the 1984 Winnipeg Folk Festival. You’ll understand my devotion. I look forward to my rediscovery of Claudia Schmidt’s work, now progressed, and hope you will join me for what I know will prove to be a memorable and blessed evening of stories and beautiful songs. George Schricker, Director, Wild Rose Moon
