Cleveland International Kite Festival
CLEVELAND INTERNATIONAL KITE FESTIVAL
A Free Family Fun Day is ahead on Saturday, August 24, 2019
At Edgewater Park in Cleveland. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A large area of the park will be available for families to use to fly their own kites, as well as picnic together and enjoy the planned kite activities.
One special activity is the Wind Sprints, a contest for all ages, starting with One and up to 100. Each age group will fly a kite across a marked area of the Demo field, letting the kite do the sprinting while the flier lets out line. Every participant will receive an award. Parents may help youngsters.
Other events and demonstrations will once again include the fabulous sky ballet of the Windjammers Performance Stunt Kite Team from Detroit.
There will be a kite shop on the field, courtesy of Chicago Kite Shop, and the OSEK tent will also have ready-to-fly sled kites that children can draw a picture on before taking it out to the field to see their artwork in the air.
Mystery Ballet is a contest that started in Ohio about 30 years ago, and has been a favorite among sport kite fliers who also contend for national prizes. In this contest , the fliers have no idea what music they will get to do a sky routine to, and the judges are all people from the public who have never flown such kites, and judge what they see on how well they liked it!
If the wind is willing and there is still time near the end of the day, there will be a Rokkaku Battle – a Japanese form of kite in a contest, which involves knocking kites out of the sky, and where the last kite in the air is the winner.
The festival is sponsored by the Ohio society for the elevation of Kites (OSEK), the kite club of northeastern Ohio since 1977. Our web site : www.osekclevealnd.org and our e-mail address is firstname.lastname@example.org
