On Saturday, June 12, Makefield Friends Meeting is celebrating the dedication of our Penn Treaty Elm tree from Haverford College's arboretum. The hundred-year-old ash tree in the circle by the meetinghouse was in poor shape and was taken down last fall. Since 1915, Haverford College has had a descendant of the Treaty Elm, the tree under which William Penn made a pact of unity with the Lenni Lenape Nation in 1682. The 4-year-old sapling they donated to Makefield Meeting is a 4th generation scion of their tree, and we are delighted to give it pride of place on our historic property.
Please join us between 1:00 and 3:00 that day for refreshments and tours of the meetinghouse and graveyard. The dedication will be at 2:00.
