Multibird / Martin Bisi & band / documentary screening

This will be a very special night at The Adelphi as we present two unique musical innovators - Seth Faergolzia (of Dufus) with h Multibird, and legendary New York producer Martin Bisi with his band

The night will also feature a screening of a 72 minute documentary film about Martin's work, “Sound and Chaos: the Story of BC Studio”

Martin Bisi, a New York indie rock performer and record producer has been at a crossroads of indie/punk, avant garde, noire/cabaret rock, and electronic music since the early 80's. In his live performances he combines indie rock songs with theatrical story-telling and unique sound layering that can be ambient and spacious, as well as beautifully chaotic - an '80's New York art-rock original.
As a producer he has realized albums by Sonic Youth, Swans, John Zorn, Africa Bambaataa, The Dresden Dolls, Herbie Hancock's Rockit, Boredoms, Helmet, White Zombie, Cop Shoot Cop, Jon Spencer's Boss Hog, to name but a few.

Multibird is the brand new project by Seth Faergolzia. Seth is well known for subtly harmonic, experimental lyricism, dynamic song structures, and whip-crack-acrobatic vocals. Celebrated as a vibrant example of what happens when a musician turns a genre like folk upside down and inside out, over time Faergolzia has come to represent something of a genre unto himself oft times nowhere near the folk aesthetic.

ABOUT THE FILM

The documentary is centered around BC Studio in Brooklyn’s Gowanus neighborhood-- which has a rich history, starting with it's founding in the early ‘80s with Bill Laswell, and with money from Brian Eno who worked on the album On Land there. Along with Bill Laswell and the band Material, Bisi recorded Herbie Hancock's hit "Rockit" in this underground space. This was the first mainstream song to feature a DJ 'scratching' with a turntable. Following that success, Bisi worked with many other influential musicians there, including Foetus, Unsane, Serena Maneesh, US Maple, among others.. He h
