EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum

CHQ, Dublin, D01 T6K4 Map

Relive the navvies' heyday, hear tales of life on the sites and in the pubs, of bed-sits and dancehalls, of Kilburn, Camden town and ‘the Shamrock’, ‘the Galtymore’ and ‘the Crown’. Enter the world of the 'Tunnel Tigers', 'Heavy Diggers', and 'McAlpine's Fusiliers'; of 'the landlady’s breakfast'; and 'long distance men'.
The craic was certainly good in Cricklewood - but who paid the price? Historian Ultan Cowley will explore the legacy of the Irish navvies in Great Britain and alongside renowned musician Joe Giltrap, will perform some of their best known songs.
Ultan Cowley is an Irish historian, a former emigrant, and author of ‘The Men Who Built Britain’, ‘Paddy and the Big Ditch’, and ‘McAlpine’s Men’.
Joe Giltrap is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose work ranges from the traditional to the contemporary.
