RIBA North

21 Mann Island, Liverpool L3 1BP, United Kingdom Map

To mark the launch of RIBA North, Architects KHBT - Karsten Huneck and Bernd Truempler, members of the office for subversive architecture, were invited to visually and spatially interpret the aims and purpose of the new national architecture centre.

The resulting pavilion in the Winter Gardens, a covered public area at the entrance to RIBA North, uses curtains of mesh fabric, used on building site scaffolding, to create sections through some of the most iconic architectural structures across the Northern Powerhouse. Scale negatives of these buildings waft in and out of focus as visitors walk through, beyond and within, The Sage Gateshead in Newcastle, Imperial War Museum North, Liverpool Catholic Cathedral and York Minster.

The pavilion will remain in place from 17 June throughout the summer.
